To celebrate UTS Green Week, DOUTS is running a clean up dive in Manly Cove. Marine debris is a global issue that pollutes water and kills sea life: why not come join us on this underwater clean up to play your part in keeping our oceans clean?
Location: We will be cleaning Manly cove, the small beach area next to Manly wharf.
Time: Meet at 9am in front of the shark nets on the beach. Aiming to get in the water around 9:30.
Manly Cove is a small area that has enough rubbish for us to collect but is also a fun dive. If you're lucky you can find seahorses in the shark net and baby cuttlefish in the seagrass. It's very shallow and a great opportunity to practice your buoyancy skills while picking up rubbish!
Snorkelers, freedivers and swimmers welcome! No need to be a scuba diver since there's sadly plenty of stuff to pick up on the beach and in the water. Many hands make for light work!
What to bring: please bring gloves (gardening gloves are perfect!) and if you have one, a mesh bag. We will hopefully be able to supply many of the mesh bags (used to collect the rubbish underwater) but please try and bring gloves as we don't have as many to lend out.
Transport: The easiest option is probably to catch the city to Manly ferry. We are unfortunately not able to offer lifts in the ute, but if you are really unsure get in contact and we might be able to organise carpooling with other members. There is plenty of parking in Manly (paid parking on the wharf, woolies car park, Library car park) but most do have parking fees.
Standard Gear Hire: Gear will be available for the reduced price of $15 per dive set (incl. BCD, regs w/ computer, weight belt, and tank). Wetsuits/Masks/Snorkels will need to be arranged yourself.
