We're going up to South West Rocks to dive at Fish Rock over the June long weekend, wanna come?
If you've ever wanted to dive with "too many" grey nurse sharks than Fish Rock is the place to go. Fish Rock is well known for the sheer number of grey nurse sharks it has. As well as the crazy number of Grey Nurse sharks around Fish Rock, as well as tons of other fish including wobbegongs, moray eels, TURTLES!, and plenty of other things to see. If you're worried about Grey Nurse Sharks, don't be. They are incredibly docile during the day. They are more afraid of you then you are of them.
There is also a 125m long cave that can be swum through by recreational divers. It is a bit challenging so make sure that you've got enough experience. Inside the cave there are an enormous amount of crayfish scuttling along the walls. There are 2 bubble caves, that surprisingly don't smell of farts or bad breath, that you can go up and have a short chat in. At the exit the sharks come into the cave as well.
More information can be found here: https://swrdive.com.au/pages/dive-sites
The town of South West Rocks also has the Trial Bay Gaol and Smokey Cape Lighthouse. We'll be checking them out as well for some photo ops on the trip as well.
We'll be heading up on the Friday, morning if you can get time off, evening if not. South West Rocks is about 5-6 hrs drive north. The dive centre has accomodation, and breakfast, above the dive centre. We'll be diving Saturday and Sunday, hopefully should be an amazing time 🤟.
The following week is the mid-sem break, so if you're on a normal uni classes schedule you'll have the Monday free. If you are free some people will be staying for another day, to chill or dive if it's really good. If unable to stay for the Monday there will be some people heading back on the Sunday afternoon. There will be transport organised to suit both groups.
Requirements:
- The dive site does consistently go beyond 20m so your Advanced certification (or a 30m equivalent) is required.
- Because the cave can unnerve some people you must have a minimum of 25 dives to come on this trip.
- It is mandatory for one to enjoy oneself on this trip 🥳.
Meals:
- The dive centre accomodation provides breakfast (cereals, milk, yoghurt and toast)
- We'll be getting dinner from the town pub on the first night.
- Depending on the weather and temperature we may do a bbq on the Saturday night, pls note that it will be winter so we may not want to be outside for too long 🥶. It'll be discussed closer to the day
Accomodation:
- We'll be staying at the accomodation above the dive centre
Gear:
- The club's BCD's and Regulators will be made available at the club rates.
- The Dive Centre will be providing tanks and weights
